Innovation - Key Features

More than 90 years of boot-making under the world's most stringent manufacturing, environmental and labour regulations, we know how to put into practise what many other companies only pay lip service to: Clean manufacturing processes, minimal waste and fair labour practises: the outcome of which are boots that last longer than our competitors when correctly maintained. LOWA is the only outdoor footwear manufacturer in the world to be granted ISO 9001 status for the highest quality construction and process standards. Specialised technical features especially lightweight materials, exceptional details, and perfect manufacturing provide for unsurpassed comfort that you feel with every step.

LOWA Flex

An innovative patented design which through the independently arranged lace loops and lace to toe lacing, reduces the pressure transmitted down a "rigid" eyelet stay to the flex point and ultimately the forefoot (plantar pads). Delivers unimaginable comfort over extended periods.

BENEFIT: Probably the greatest advance in boot technology providing reduced pressure over the instep and onto the ball of the foot.

Flexfit Synchro

When hiking and climbing, especially on narrow tracks, and even more so on rough terrain, the orthopaedic "centre" of the ankle joint does not correspond to the orthopaedic "centre" of the knee joint. This is a natural result of the way the foot touches the ground: not centrally below the hip joint but a little bit more medially. As a consequence, the longitudinal axis of the lower leg is not completely vertical but slightly inclined to the outside. The asymmetrical upper construction of the FlexFit-Synchro technology takes this biomechanical knowledge into account. The shaft of the shoe moves "in sync" with the lower leg, thereby noticeably improving walking comfort.

BENEFIT: Adds massively to comfort and flexibility of ankles in stiff and rigid Alpine and backpacking boots whilst maintaining protection.

I-Lock

A new patented and exclusive LOWA cam clamp makes it simple to offer two-zone lacing. The lacing secures the instep of the foot with only one pull. Pushing the cam clip upwards easily releases the clamping to loosen the instep lacing = guarantees perfect lacing comfort!

BENEFIT: Makes differential lacing secure and easy, no fiddling.

LOWA FlexFit

Found in Backpacking and Trekking boots where designated.

  • Better ankle flex through the "FlexZone" and flexible "LaceLoop"
  • Better heel-fit through the "LaceLoop"
  • Free lacing hook doesn't interfere with flex

BENEFIT: Easier ankle flex and better heel fit whilst still maintaining stability and protection.

C4 Tongue

The tongue is one of the most underrated components of a boot. A good one will stay in place, absorb the pressure well and you won't even think about it. A bad one will haunt you all trip. Our C4 tongues are made up of 15 parts per tongue. Anatomically-contoured for a natural flex that cradles the foot in comfort and promotes a faster break-in time.

The following features of the "C4" Tongue noticeably increase walking comfort:Asymmetrical padding (thicker towards the outside of the foot to stop that annoying tongue sliding to the outside)

Asymmetrical padding (thicker towards the outside of the foot to stop that annoying tongue sliding to the outside)
The top of the tongue has additional soft padding which stops those nasty leather edges biting into your shins, especially when decending.

The flex notch at the base in the instep allows the tongue to conform beautifully, thus relieving pressure on the instep

BENEFIT: More comfort over the instep through engineered padding and instep flex notch.

X-Lacing Technology

Completely centres the tongue, secures it in place symmetrically, tongue does not migrate to the lateral side and comfort is increased.

BENEFIT: Tongue ceases "wandering", remains firmly located with more instep comfort.

LOWA Floating Tongue (Weisshorn GTX)

  • Elastic construction
  • Optimum adjustment
  • Protection of the instep area
  • Improved waterproofing

BENEFIT: Allows for easier access putting boots on.

I-Core

The exclusive I-Core carbon insert forms the intelligent core of the sole units. A precise alignment of the carbon fibres with the lever arm achieves both flexion and torsional stability, for lightweight, better shock absorption and comfort.

BENEFIT: Provides stiffness and stability with exceptional lightweight.

SPS

Supination/Pronation Support Technology, featured in our classic boots, is key to providing support. By placing TPU inserts within the softer PU midsole mould, we are able to control and frequently prevent over pronation and supination which often occurs during hiking, and which can contribute to fatigue and injury over long distances.

BENEFIT: Massive aid to correct and provide efficient walking motion and thus reducing fatigue over long distances.

Monowrap®

MONOWRAP® frame technology makes boots that are lighter and more supportive than ever.

  • Dual Density PU (polyurethane) HEEL COUNTER adds heel stability.
  • PU MONOWRAP® Frame and Integrated PU Midsole deliver outstanding shock absorption; are more durable, long-lasting and eco-friendly than other midsole materials.
  • Full-length STABILISING SHANK protects, stabilises underfoot.
  • VIBRAM® EVO sole provides sure-footed traction in mixed terrain.

BENEFIT: Provides additional support and protection without compromising comfort.

LOWA Stabiliser

The plastic stabiliser element features in all multi-functional footwear. It improves ankle stability and torsional rigidity. Depending on intended use varies to full length and stiffer for more serious activities/duties.

BENEFITS: Provides good longitudinal and torsional stability and protection against protuberances through the sole.

LOWA Mid & Outer Soles - Comfort & Grip Underfoot!

We believe in polyurethane (PU). It's a terrific shock absorber and is the most durable midsole material there is - plus it uses a much cleaner manufacturing process than EVA (we use double melded non-toxic EVA midsoles only when weight is a primary design criterion). Combine a LOWA PU midsole with one of VIBRAM®'s acclaimed sole units and you get a double dose of incredible durability, comfort and superb performance underfoot. Like LOWA boots, VIBRAM® began in the Alps as a response to mountaineers' needs. Since its inception in 1935, VIBRAM® has become the gold (or should we say bright yellow?) standard for high-performance soling products for outdoor footwear.

Heel Truss

The Heel Truss found on selected mountaineering boots plays an important role in stabilising the connection between the boot shaft and the sole package underfoot. It also provides important heel and upper protection and firms up the heel pocket for better heel hold.

BENEFIT: Provides great heel fit and hold with easy crampon fitting.

Climate Control System

LOWA's moisture management system keeps feet dry, protecting you against blisters and hot spots. A series of perforations or holes inside the boot's cuff lining allows air to enter the boot lining while the walking movement pumps heat and moisture back out through the holes. Moisture is pulled away from the foot, evaporating while you walk.

BENEFIT: Maintains feet in the best environment possible thus minimising any foot issues.
